Project Background
SBU Eats worked with seniors in the Sustainability Studies Program to:
- analyze the proposed garden site
- research campus gardens around the country
- work to understand the opportunities and challenges to designing, building and operating a successful campus garden
Project Goals
- create a garden to enhance the visual beauty of the campus
- provide healthy ingredients for campus dining
- facilitate educational and research opportunities
- provide opportunities for social interaction

- Sweet Basil
- Red Basil
- Marjoram
- Oregano
- Chives
- Cilantro
- Marigolds (for pest control)
Produce will be added / changed as seasons change
Stony Brook Heights Rooftop Farm
The Stony Brook Medical Center 2200 sq. ft. Rooftop Farm provides patients, visitors, and staff with roughly 1500lbs of fresh, locally grown, organic produce each season and acts as a prominent example of permaculture gardening. Learn more about Stony Brook University Hospital dining program.
