Licensing and Patents

Your idea and research may result in a new invention or patentable product. You are required to disclose all new inventions and technologies to the Office of Technology Licensing and Industry Relations.

The office then assists with conducting preliminary research, filing the patent, and licensing the invention to potential business partners. If a project has the potential to be patented and commercialized, the Office of Technology Licensing and Industry Relations encourages early contact to ensure that the prospective discoveries are protected. The OTLIR also provides ample resources for researchers, entrepreneurs and business so as to encourage the creation of valuable relationships in the field.

Royalties collected are distributed to the inventors, labs, and the university.
