Dr. Zacharoff is a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist with over 25 years of clinical experience in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and an active Faculty Member and Clinical Instructor for the past 13 years at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in the Department of Family, Population & Preventive Medicine.  The courses he teaches include Medicine in Contemporary Society, focusing on medical ethics-related issues, and Themes in Medical Education, focusing on patient and family centered care and evidence-based care. Additionally, he is the Course Director and Faculty of an elective course on Pain, Drugs and Ethics, and the Co-Course Director and Faculty of an elective course for Phase III medical students on Addiction and Pain. He has been particularly devoted to pain and substance abuse education and research for the past 15 years, authoring a number of texts and peer-reviewed journal articles, along with serving as investigator for numerous NIH-funded research grants in these areas. Dr. Zacharoff is a sitting member of the Anesthetic and Analgesic Drug Products Advisory Committee to the Food and Drug Administration, the Editor-in-Chief of The PAINWeek Journal, and serves on the editorial review board of several peer-reviewed journals including The Journal of Pain, Pain Medicine, The British Medical Journal Open, Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety and The Journal of Addictive Diseases. Dr. Zacharoff also serves as Chairperson of the Ethics Committee at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, New York and as a Consultant to the Ethics Committee at Stony Brook University Hospital.
