Visiting Assistant Professor / Assistant Professor of Practice

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Education, Communication, or other relevant social science discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching/leading workshops.
  • Minimum of 1 year leading communication workshops for scientists or medical professionals.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in curriculum development and assessment, and training trainers.
  • Strong record of designing, facilitating, and assessing adult learning experiences.
  • Experience in working with trainers, including developing and delivering the train the trainer programs.
  • Demonstrated passion for science communication and familiarity with the Alda Center techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Specialization in curriculum design, demonstrated capacity for developing outcomes based curriculum in relevant areas for the Alda Center (Message Design for scientists and medical professionals); experience working with scientists in the STEM and medical fields; experience managing and growing partnership networks; and coaching trainers.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science is seeking a Professor of Practice (Visiting Assistant Professor) at the Assistant Professor Level, to serve as the Message Design Curriculum Leader with special expertise in teaching, workshop training, curriculum design, and a strong understanding of the cultures of science and medicine.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation, development, implementation, and training of STEM and Medical curriculum in the Alda Center; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses; managing STEM training in the Alda Center partnership network; recruiting and training Message Design instructors; and traveling to deliver Alda Method workshops.  Candidates should have a strong background in educational assessment and curriculum design, experience in community outreach, and significant experience training others.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: April 1, 2018.
