How is Your SUNY Tuition Credit Calculated?
Effective for the 21/22 academic year, your SUNY Tuition Credit is calculated each term (fall/spring), using the following formula:
(Tuition + College Fee) - Maximum TAP Allowed1 X (Student TAP Award / Dependent or Independent Maximum TAP Award Schedule2)
Example Awarding for the 21/22 academic year:
Your tuition rate will vary based upon whether you are an Excelsior recipient. You can view your tuition rate on your Account Summary in SOLAR. This is where you will also be able to see the value of the College Fee for each term (fall/spring).
Non-Excelsior Recipients
Example for a Dependent Student with a TAP Award of $250
Step 1 - Determine your (Tuition + College Fee) - Maximum TAP Allowed1
($3,535 + $137.50) - $2,832.50 = $840
Step 2 -Divide your Student TAP Award Amount by the Maximum TAP Award based upon your dependency status
$250 / $2,832.50 = 0.08826
Step 3 - Multiply your result from Step 1 by your result from Step 2
$840 X 0.08826 = $74.13

For the 21/22 aid year, independent students (single, with no dependents) have a maximum TAP award of $1,762.50/term (TAP Schedule J). All others have a maximum TAP award of $2,832.50/term (TAP Schedule B).
