Be Heard: A New Opportunity to Share Your Voice at Stony Brook
March 11, 2025
Dear Stony Brook University Faculty and Staff,
Our success as an institution — one that is vital to the Long Island economy as well as the community at large and beyond — is built on the collective efforts of every member of our team. Whatever your role is in keeping this university thriving, you are integral to who we are and what we achieve. Consequently, the quality of your work environment — the space where you collaborate, innovate, and contribute — matters deeply to us.
On March 24, Stony Brook will launch Be Heard, our first formal employee engagement survey, in partnership with ModernThink, a national leader in higher education surveys. Be Heard marks the beginning of an ongoing and authentic dialogue about the work environment we share, and how we can all continuously work to improve it. Our aim is to ensure that your voices contribute to our efforts to ensure Stony Brook is a great place to work and an employer of choice for our staff and faculty.
This survey is completely voluntary and confidential. Your participation is essential in shaping the culture that will carry Stony Brook forward — not just in our global endeavors, but in the everyday work that makes this university an inspiring and rewarding place to work. Detailed information will be forthcoming about the survey, and additional details are available at this link.
You have often heard me express my deepest appreciation for Stony Brook and the people who make our university such a special place to be. I continue to be struck with overwhelming admiration by the team spirit that permeates our community. As Stony Brook continues to represent all things excellent as New York’s flagship university, reflecting the very best in academia, research, innovation and healthcare, we need to continuously nurture and improve our work environment to ensure we not only meet expectations but exceed them to become an even better university, to become a true flagship.
Building a campus community we are proud of takes all of us. Your input matters, so please watch for the survey and dedicate time to sharing your feedback to make our university an even better place to work. Thank you for all you do for Stony Brook.
Sincerely,
Richard L. McCormick
Interim President
