Alex Kutsupis (BA, 2022)

Alex Kutsupis at the University of Michigan

Alex Kutsupis changed his major 4 times before finding a home at SOMAS, but the winding path didn't end there. After graduating in 2022 with his degree in Environmental Design, Policy, and Planning, he worked with a local Brooklyn nonprofit for a year, helping to conduct the Crown Heights Commercial District Needs Assessment.

While an amazing experience, Alex wanted to dig deeper into working with data, so he began to study Geospatial Data Science as a Master's student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He will graduate in December 2025!

While studying for his Masters, Alex has been working part time in the U-M Office of University Development’s Digital Infrastructure team developing and maintaining internal tools. He is an intern at LimnoTech, an environmental science and water quality management consulting firm, where he is working with sensor data from buoys in the Great Lakes.

The skills Alex learned during his time at SOMAS translated very well into his future roles. Independence, teamwork, the grit to “figure things out” and finding comfort in not having all the answers were key drivers in his success so far. Additionally, the environmental niche is amazing for making an impact and Alex has found that niche rewarding to work in.
