After graduating from the Marine Conservation and Policy program in 2022, Demetrios Caroussos continued his path in marine sciences as a Marine Ecology and Aquaculture Educator with the Cornell Cooperative Marine Extension. In the summer, he educates student interns and works closely with gardening programs to restore clams and oysters. During the winter, Demetrios further researches ribbed mussels with his team which dates back to his capstone project for the Marine Conservation and Policy program.

Demetrios recalls his unique experiences at SBU, shared among his close-knit classmates, to be of great value leading to lasting and cherished connections. Throughout the 12-month program, the support and advice from faculty and students led him to pursue a capstone research project evaluating the ability of ribbed mussels (Geukensia demissa) to remove harmful bacteria from the water in sewage overflow events. The Marine Conservation and Policy program has enhanced the skills needed for his day to day work with the Cornell Cooperative Marine Extension.
