Katie Conroy (MA, 2018)

Katie, a Brooklyn native, graduated from the Marine Conservation and Policy (MCP) program in 2018 after completing her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from Clark University. Between undergraduate and grad school, she worked for a variety of organizations in marine research and environmental education. For her MCP internship she became an intern at National Marine Fisheries Service's protected resource division in Seattle, WA where she studied the Chinook salmon fishery. This internship led her to understand the implemented management of the Southern Resident Killer Whale population for her research project. Aside from her internship accomplishments, she greatly benefited from the faculty she has connected with at Stony Brook University.

Today Katie is an Education and Engagement Specialist at the Maine Maritime Museum. At the museum she creates, organizes, and facilitates educational programs covering topics from local environmental history to current environmental issues. Her day to day tasks vary and she finds that implementing new programs in order to teach holds a “new adventure” everyday. She is currently working on programs inspired by a new exhibit at the museum, “Sea Change”, which explores marine conservation issues through an interactive art experience.
