Dear Seawolves,

Yesterday, SUNY announced that the COVID-19 vaccine will no longer be mandated for students to attend SUNY’s 64 campuses, effective for Summer 2023. This means that students at Stony Brook will no longer be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enroll in in-person classes, live on campus, or access in-person campus services or facilities.

We will continue to strongly encourage students to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and also receive their subsequent COVID boosters as well as other vaccinations such as influenza and mpox. Please be aware that New York State Public Health Law requires college students to submit proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and the meningitis response form in order to enroll in classes. These requirements have not changed. 

Please note that students enrolled in any program or course or who are participating in a clinical or internship held at a third-party location must continue to comply with all health and safety guidelines, including any COVID vaccination or testing protocols that are in place at the third-party location. In addition, certain employees, students, and volunteers at healthcare facilities, including Stony Brook Medicine and SUNY healthcare facilities and hospitals, may be subject to mandatory COVID-19 vaccination pursuant to relevant regulations and policies.

We will continuously examine COVID-19 data and update our policy as needed based on local conditions or in response to requirements imposed by federal, state, or local authorities. We will also continue to monitor local conditions carefully and make changes as appropriate.

We will be updating our immunizations information website shortly to reflect this policy change.
