Message About COVID Vaccine Deadline and Testing Requirements for Commuters

Subject: Deadline Approaching to Receive your COVID Vaccine & Testing Reminder

Dear Seawolves,

Our records indicate that you are enrolled in at least one in-person class and have not submitted proof of your COVID vaccine. As previously communicated, given the COVID vaccine’s FDA approval, per New York State policy, all SUNY students are now required to submit proof of their COVID vaccination.

Approaching Deadline:

Stony Brook University’s deadline to submit proof is Friday, September 24Note these important dates to meet this deadline and remain enrolled in your fall in-person classes:

  • If you are planning to get the Moderna vaccine, you must receive your first dose by August 27The second dose must be completed 28 days later.
  • If you are planning to get the Pfizer vaccine, you must receive your first dose by September 3The second dose must be completed 21 days later.
  • If you are planning to get the J&J vaccine, you must receive your one dose by September 24.

You must upload proof of your initial dose when you receive that dose, and then upload proof of full vaccination by September 24 to remain enrolled in your in-person fall classes and/or use an in-person campus service or facility.  Click here for instructions on how to upload your proof of vaccination to the Wolfie Health Portal.

Vaccination Opportunities:

You can obtain the COVID vaccine at any off-campus provider, or for your convenience, you can obtain the COVID vaccine for free on campus.  For walk-in and appointment dates, times, and locations, please visit the Student Health Services website

Unvaccinated Commuter Students Weekly Testing Requirement:

All unvaccinated or partially vaccinated commuter students are required to obtain a COVID test once per week (week starts every Monday and runs through Sunday) until they are considered fully vaccinated (two weeks after their final dose).  Students who do not comply with this weekly testing requirement will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.

Testing begins on campus starting the week of August 30, but you may choose to test with an off-campus provider.  Please visit the Student Health Services website to view the testing schedule and sign up for an appointment each week.  If you elect to test off-campus, you are responsible for any costs not covered by your insurance, and you must upload your test result to the Wolfie Health Portal by Sunday night each week.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this important health and safety matter.  If you have any questions, please email studentaffairs@stonybrook.edu.
