Subject: Snow Is on the Way!What You Need to Know

Dear Seawolves,

We have a winter storm watch in effect for our area starting tonight through Saturday evening. According to the weather forecast, we expect heavy snowfall with possible total snow accumulations of 10”-15” and strong winds with possible gusts as high as 55 mph. Due to these hazardous conditions, please avoid travel during this time, including traversing campus or driving in any vehicles. If you must travel during this time, be alert of your surroundings and factor in time delays due to road conditions and impacted transit services.

BE PREPARED AND BE SAFE!

  • Stay informed - Ensure you are signed up for SBALERT. View a tutorial on how to sign up for SB Alert Notification.
  • Charge mobile devices ahead of the storm and unplug any electronics that are sensitive to power surges.
  • Use caution when walking outdoors as the wind force may bring down tree branches and other loose items. If you live off campus, make sure you secure loose outdoor items that can be picked up by strong winds.
  • Don’t go outside to “feel the wind” or open the windows. With high wind speeds, even a bit of debris can be harmful. Stay indoors until winds subside.
  • Have a flashlight ready if power goes out. Do not use candles. If you live on campus and we lose power, the emergency lights will come on.
  • We expect outside temperatures to be around 20 to 30°F. If you must go outside, wear layers to help keep you warm.

In the event of an emergency, please contact University Police at 333 from a campus phone or (631) 632-3333 from non-campus phones. If you’re off campus, call 911.

Students with disabilities and students who require special accommodations are encouraged to contact Student Accessibility Support Services (SASC) at (631) 632-6748, or the Campus Residences central office at (631) 632-6750, and let their Resident Assistant (RA) and/or Residence Hall Director (RHD) know immediately. Additional information can be found on the Student Accessibility Support Services website.
