Biography
Atsuko Oyama is a Lecturer in the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies and LLRC. Atsuko received her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. Her research explores the intersection of gender, class, and race and how they are appropriated to craft modern personhoods and maintain the political economy of Japan. Using an interdisciplinary approach, she has focused in particular on new nurturing styles of fatherhood and masculinity in modern and contemporary Japan. She has taught Japanese in the U.S., Russia, and Japan.
