"Fostering the next generation of leaders in Biomedical Engineering"

We emphasize an hands-on and interdisciplinary engineering approach to the complex problems facing medicine in the post-genomics age. Our curriculum provides the strong foundation necessary for undertaking advanced basic, applied, and translational research. The Biomedical Engineering department  is at the nexus formed by Stony Brook University, the Renaissance School of Medicine, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

 

Master's and Doctoral Levels

  • The doctoral level is directed toward students interested in aBalaszi lab research or academic career.
  • The master's level is designed for those primarily interested in the development and application of advanced technology in biomedical products and processes.

Medical Scientist Training Program (M.D./Ph.D.)

BME Grad Students can be enrolled in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) and pursue a Medical Degree along with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering.

Optics

is a collaboration between Stony Brook University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Business, and Center for Biotechnology. Students learn fundamentals of business, finance, regulatory affairs, market need, and due-diligence necessary for leveraging technology into bioscience oriented start-up companies, business ventures, or products in established companies.
