The Dr. William McAdoo Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. William McAdoo Memorial Scholarship was established in 2004 to honor the former Chair of the Africana Studies Department, who was an ardent supporter of diversity, equality, and social justice. The Dr. William McAdoo Memorial Scholarship was created in his name to acknowledge exceptional undergraduate students who excel in their studies while actively advocating for social justice issues; display their interest and commitment by participating, organizing and coordinating a variety of extracurricular and community outreach or organizing activities; demonstrate leadership qualities; and make contributions to diversity related programs on the Stony Brook University campus or in their communities.

The Mr. Ralph Watkins Memorial Scholarship

The Ralph Watkins Memorial Scholarship was established in 2006 in memory and honor of the former Director of Special Projects at Stony Brook University in the late 1970s which included the supervision of EOP/AIM, Upward Bound, and Disabled Student Services. Once serving as a Tuskegee Airman in WWII, he became a zealous supporter of social justice, and served as the Chairman of Suffolk County Human Rights Commission. The Ralph Watkins Memorial Scholarship was established for underrepresented students who are eligible for admission under regular criteria but due to financial constraints may be unable to complete their education.

Veterans Wanted

New Jobs Microsite

https://stonybrook-veterans.jobs/

At Stony Brook University, we recognize and value the challenges, dedication, and sacrifice of the brave men and women who serve our country.

One of the challenges for transitioning service members seeking civilian employment is identifying the jobs that they are qualified for based on their military experience. Similarly, potential employers are sometimes unable to recognize how the valuable skill set of veterans may extend to meet the needs their company has to fulfill.

In order to further Stony Brook's efforts to ensure equal access to professional and educational opportunities at Stony Brook for all individuals, Stony Brook has launched a “Military Skills Translator” jobs microsite aimed at helping Veterans identify how their valuable skills and experience in the United States military “translate” to positions that are available at Stony Brook.

Stony Brook’s new "Military Skill Translator" micro-site does just that - it “translates” Stony Brook’s available job postings into MOC/MOS (Military Occupational Classification).  From the microsite Veterans can search or filter by their military job title or code and other criteria.  This allows Veterans to identify which Stony Brook jobs they may be qualified for based on their prior military experience. Once a Veteran identifies a position(s) they are able to directly apply through the regular application process.

Stony Brook University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. We are committed to the creation of a diverse and inclusive campus climate. We encourage protected veterans, individuals with disabilities, women and minorities to apply.

Haven: Understanding Sexual Assault

Haven Plus

Haven for Faculty and Staff

Stony Brook implemented an on-line training program, Haven: Understanding Sexual Assault for students in 2015 and in 2016 for faculty and staff. This program has been very successful in providing the campus community with important information on prevention and awareness and providing participants with useful on-campus resources and information on relevant Stony Brook policies and procedures. Haven should empower you to make well-informed decisions.

Are you a student new to Stony Brook (Undergraduate, Graduate, Freshman, Transfer, Professional or International)? You are required to take Haven by February 19, 2018. Student Athletes, EBoard members and Greek-life students are required to take annual training. These students, and other students who have completed Haven previously at Stony Brook, should complete HavenPlus, a shorter refresher version of Haven. If you are a Student Athlete, E-board member or participate in Greek-life and did not complete your required annual training this fall, please complete HavenPlus before February 19, 2018. New Employees are required to take Haven for Faculty and Staff as part of their New Employee Orientation. The training is available to all Stony Brook University staff.
