Assessment Levels

Assessment of teaching and learning effectiveness can occur at various levels in higher education. This can include assessment at the level of the institution, school or college, program, course, and individual students. It also pertains to the assessment of general education requirements, known as the Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC) at SBU, and assessment of administrative units in their delivery of academic, operational or student services. While the focus of OEE is facilitating best practices in program assessment, it is important to understand the alignment and relationship between assessment at multiple levels in an institution. Assessment at all levels serves to foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability, while meeting requirements for regional and national accrediting bodies.
