Music Performance D.M.A.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Upon completion of the degree, students should be able to demonstrate a mastery in the performance of music from a breadth of time periods and styles, with a particular emphasis on music from the last fifty years.

2. Upon completion of the degree, students should be able to communicate effectively about a wide range of music, demonstrating persuasive speaking and writing, a breadth of knowledge about form, harmony, and cultural context, as well as an ability to engage in question-and-answer with their examining committee for the Final Oral Exam.

3. Upon completion of the degree, students should be able to perform as chamber musicians in high-level, professional settings.

4. Upon completion of the degree, students should have improved their skills in large ensemble playing.

5. Upon completion of the degree, students should be able to demonstrate competence in musicianship (dictation and sight singing) in tonal and post-tonal music.
