Philosophy Ph.D.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. The doctoral student will be able to analyze primary texts in contemporary continental philosophy, and to compose professionally written works.

2. The doctoral student will be able to analyze primary texts in contemporary analytic philosophy, and to compose professional written works.

3. The doctoral student will demonstrate competency in interdisciplinary studies by relating philosophy to other studies in a cross-disciplinary manner.

4. The doctoral student will demonstrate a mastery of the philosophical literature constituting the tradition lying at the core of Western civilization.

5. The doctoral student will be prepared to teach philosophy in undergraduate and graduate institutions of higher learning by presenting, explaining central philosophical texts, as well as discussing and evaluating their students’ work.
