Fraternity/Sorority Recognition

The expansion process for Fraternities and Sororities is different from the new club process.

Please note, the University is not currently accepting applications for expansion or reactivation at this time.

Stony Brook University's Expansion/Reactivation Process

Phase 1: Expansion/Reactivation Application:

All submissions must be delivered via email to sbufsl@stonybrook.edu. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis by the expansion/reactivation committee which includes faculty, staff, and students. Organizations will be notified if they will proceed to the next phase. Please note that all information requested in our recognition policy should be submitted for full considertation. Applications received after the required date will not be accepted.

Phase 2: On-Campus Interview and Presentation

Organizations invited to campus will participate in a half day interview. The on-campus interview will consist of an overview and debrief of the day, a presentation hosted by the organization open to the campus community with a Q&A, an interview with Student Life Senior Leadership, and optional opportunities for a campus tour and tabling in one of our student centers.

For guidelines on fraternity/sorority recognition, please review the policy provided below:

For any questions or concerns, or to submit a formal letter of interest in seeking recognition please email sbufsl@stonybrook.edu.

Please note: Stony Brook University will not recognize any new local fraternities or sororities. Inter/national fraternity and sorority headquarters or members may not solicit, recruit, or initiate Stony Brook University students without University consent.
