A Tuition Scholarship is not a component of the positions. Instead, Graduate Tuition Scholarships are issued directly by Stony Brook University’s graduate programs and based on academic merit.

• Graduate Assistant for Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development - Spring 2024 (Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development)

  The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development is currently seeking a reliable, detail-oriented student assistant to join the team. The is an hourly student appointment, available beginning immediately in the Spring 2024 semester, with the possibility to continue through the Summer 2024 semester. The incumbent will support the creation, facilitation, and promotion of professional development programs offered by the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development. 

  Job duties:

  • Provide administrative support for the planning, logistics, and assessment of in-person and virtual professional development workshops and events, including Research Mentor Training and the Three Minute Thesis competition. This includes room scheduling, coordination of catering, processing registration, and assessment data, and managing an online calendar of campus-wide professional development events.
  • Coordinate marketing and promotions for professional development opportunities via social media and other avenues to graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and the wider SBU community.
  • Contribute to the identification, development, and implementation of professional development opportunities for graduate students at SBU that respond to current needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  Qualifications: 
  Candidate must be currently enrolled as a graduate student at Stony Brook University.  Successful candidates will possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.  Experience using Google Apps, Microsoft Office (particularly Microsoft Excel), and Adobe Professional/DC Reader.

  Work Hours:

• Graduate Assistant of Facilities - Spring 2024, Summer 2024, AY24/25, Winter 2025 (Recreation and Wellness)

  The Graduate Assistant (GA) of Facilities within the Department of Recreation and Wellness is a vital member of the Campus Recreation’s management team. The GA will act as a role model for undergraduate students and will be responsible for assisting the Director and the Associate Director of Facilities with the daily Maintenance and Facility operations of the Campus Recreation Center and Campus Recreation Field Complexes. This GA will assist with building and undergraduate staff supervision, maintenance of all facility equipment, inventory control, field usage monitoring, and any other building issues. • Graduate Coordinator of UNITI Cultural Center - AY23/24 (Diversity, Intercultural, and Community Engagement)

  Position Description:
  The Department of Diversity, Intercultural, and Community Development (DICE)  is seeking a qualified graduate student to support the UNITI Cultural Center (UCC). This position is responsible for providing educational, cultural, and social programs (in-person and virtual) and campus outreach to promote Stony Brook University's diverse and all-inclusive campus community. This position assists with the coordination and daily management of the UNITI Cultural Center (UCC). As a member of the DICE Team and reporting the Coordinator for Multicultural Affairs, the UCC Graduate Student Coordinator will help supervise undergraduate student staff, collaborate with cultural student clubs and organizations on programming, and help establish and support the new UCC Program Board. The UCC Graduate Coordinator also will use marketing and communications to promote the UCC and its many programs and activities. 

  Essential Job Duties: Coordinate virtual and in-person diversity/cultural programs and help manage UNITI Cultural Center facilities. Help supervise 8-10 undergraduate staff (UCC Student Assistants). Work with the UCC Program Board (new) and Stony Brook’s cultural student clubs & organizations. Create publicity & promotional materials, including print media, website calendar, social media, and email lists for campus community outreach. Assist with the development and implementation of related department programs. Assist with program evaluation and assessment. Perform related administrative duties (e.g., record keeping, generating reports, etc.).

  Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and be enrolled as a full-time graduate student.

• Pre-College Summer Graduate Assistant - Desired Start Date: March 18. Includes June 24-July 31. (SBU Pre-College Summer Program Office)

  The Stony Brook University (SBU) Pre-College Summer Program is committed to providing a safe and supportive living-learning environment, allowing rising high school juniors and seniors to explore their academic interests with like-minded peers and to develop a beginning sense of life as college students.  Pre-College Summer (PCS) is a non-credit program designed to provide an academically rigorous, fun, and engaging college experience. Courses are taught by accomplished Stony Brook faculty from the School of Dental Medicine, College of Business, College of Engineering and Applied Science, School of Health Professions, School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, School of Communication and Journalism, School of Professional Development (SPD), and the College of Arts and Sciences. 

  Position Description:
  This is a part-time position (20 hours per week) in the Pre-College Summer Program Office. The incumbent  is responsible for supporting the Director of Pre-College Summer in planning the Pre-College Summer program during the academic year and supporting program operation during the Summer. The Graduate Student Assistant must be enrolled in the Higher Education Administration (HEA) Program. The successful candidate should be energetic, motivated, willing to take on tasks to build and develop a rapidly growing university program, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The Graduate Student Assistant will work closely with University faculty, staff, undergraduate and other graduate students, as well as high school counselors, students, and parents.  This is a one-year position, with a second-year renewal pending satisfactory performance after the first year.

  Academic Year Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Program Director in building out program content areas and collaborate with the SPD marketing team to build out aligned web content and marketing materials
  • Respond to student and parent inquiries via email, phone, and Zoom.
  • Assist with the planning and organization of academic, leadership, and social student exploratory workshops.
  • Assist and support marketing efforts including attending expos & fairs, facilitating webinars, and following up with prospective students.
  • Coordinate and execute recruitment, selection, hiring, and onboarding of Summer residential staff (Undergraduate Students), and post-program evaluation of staff.
  • Gather data on other national Pre-College programs including student application processes, costs & fees, scholarships and financial assistance programs, social programming, and course offerings.
  • Support Program Director in processing and reviewing applications and confirming participant enrollments in courses.

  Program Operational Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to establishing an effective, cohesive, and inclusive weekly program culture that promotes intellectual curiosity and engagement, inclusion and belonging, fun, and safety.
  • Support effective, open, and appropriate channels of communication with the Program Director, other staff, student participants, parents/guardians, and other key stakeholders. 
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings, activities, and academic/social programs.
  • Establish positive relationships and build rapport with program partners, course faculty, division administration, university vendors, and workshop facilitators.
  • Participate in daily pre and post-program planning and update meetings.
  • Collaborate with residential hall coordinators/pre-college staff in the creation and execution of evening social/athletic programming schedules.
  • Help ensure afternoon workshops, social programming activities, and activity schedules are maintained, executed, and supervised by residential and program staff.
  • Support participant drop-off and pick-up transitions. 
  • Distributing information, and completing incident, facilities, and maintenance reports.
  • Support emergency response protocols.

  • Enrollment in the SBU Higher Education Administration graduate program

• Student Media Coordinator - Spring 2024, AY24/25 & Winter 2025 (Student Community Development)

  Position Description:
  The Graduate Student Coordinator for Student Media is a graduate position within the Department of Student Community Development. This position is integral to the advisement, support and development of Stony Brook University’s Student Media Services operation, the student media and news organizations, the Student Media Council (SMC), and University radio station operation (WUSB 90.1/107.3fm) Radio Station. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director for Student Media.

  Required Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled as a full time graduate student at Stony Brook University for the 2024-2025 academic year and be available for staff training throughout the year. Training dates TBD.
  • Demonstrated effective use of organizational and planning skills, and managing workflow in a fast paced work environment.
  • Event planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and to work autonomously.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Publisher, Google Apps Office Suite, and social media platforms. Ability to learn other software programs.

• Testing Center Assistant - Spring 2024 (Student Accessibility Support Center - SASC)

  The Student Accessibility Support Center (SASC) is looking to hire a reliable and independent graduate student to work as a student assistant to our professional staff. The position will work closely with SASC's testing coordinator to oversee testing accommodations, but may at times be asked to assist other staff members.

  This position will begin as an in-training roll working with the current student assistant and the Testing Coordinator.

• Graduate Coordinator for Facility Reservations - Summer 2024, AY24/25, Winter 2025 (Campus Life Centers, Student Life)

  The Campus Life Centers area in the Office of Student Life is seeking two qualified graduate students for the position of  Graduate Coordinator for Facility Reservations. 

  Major Responsibilities:

  • Process incoming facility reservation requests via 25Live PRO application and online forms.
  • Manage spreadsheets, reports, and surveys. Oversee data management as it relates to accounts payable and receivable, as well as facility usage.
  • Manage and create all necessary permits for events, if required.
  • Work with external vendors and place orders as needed.
  • Assist with training, development, and recognition of CLC staff members.
  • Assist in tracking VIP events and work with event organizers on the planning of their events.
  • Ensure that all phases of event production are implemented per university and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Attend departmental staff meetings.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Understand the basic functions of the facilities and services provided by the Campus Life Centers and provide support as needed.

• Academic Success Coach (Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center) - AY24/25 (Athletics)

  Position Description:
  The Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center is seeking graduate-level students to serve as Academic Success Coaches (ASCs) and work with a small cohort of student-athletes. The ASC would be exposed to all facets of the job, including but not limited to: meeting weekly with at-risk student-athletes to monitor academic progress, managing study hall, working with NCAA Progress Towards Degree rules, connecting student-athletes to campus resources, helping them understand University processes/procedures, assisting with advising student-athletes regarding course registration and helping with programming and other initiatives of the office. Each Academic Success Coach will work collaboratively with one of our full-time advisors, so as to gain a breadth of experience across various sport programs we have here at Stony Brook, but also see the details on a micro scale of advising a set cohort.   The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards supports the educational mission of Stony Brook University by addressing and resolving situations in which the behavioral choices of students may negatively impact others and/or themselves. Through our student conduct processes and outreach, we educate students on the rights and responsibilities of community membership, and support the success of individual students and the Stony Brook University community as a whole.   Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards, the Community Standards Assistant position offers outstanding practical experience for graduate students who are interested in the areas of student conduct/accountability, advising, educational programs, assessment, and general higher education/student affairs. The Community Standards Assistant will gain investigatory, analytical, decision making, presentation, and written and oral communication skills through this position.
  
  The Community Standards Assistant will have opportunities to collaborate with all staff members in the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, investigate and resolve student conduct matters, and engage in developmental conversations with students through one on one meetings and by facilitating group educational classes.   The Graduate Assistant (GA) of Facilities within the Department of Recreation and Wellness is a vital member of the Campus Recreation’s management team. The Residential Community Standards Assistant Coordinator provides administrative and programmatic support to the professional and student staff under the lens of restorative justice practices. 

  Job Responsibilities: 
  - Process alleged student conduct violations and audit files
  - Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance and track RHD/AC paperwork submissions
  - Manage inquiries regarding requests for information from Conduct hearing officers
  - Assess and disseminate student conduct history for various departments and offices as per their request

Students enrolled in the Higher Education Administration (HEA) Program who do not have one year of professional work experience in higher education or are not currently employed in higher education, are required to complete a 150-hour (10 hours per week for 15 weeks) practicum (unpaid internship) with an approved supervisor working in the higher education field or student affairs department to gain practical experience.  In addition to their field hours, students will also complete a 14-week online course, HEA 586 - Practicum in Higher Education, to build a strong theory-to-practice connection, and to reflect on and discuss the practicum experience.  Students will earn 3 credits and can choose to do their internship in the Fall or Spring semester.  The 3 credits earned will count as one of the six required electives for the program. This practicum opportunity is for students who are in the Master of Arts program only. Students in the Advanced Graduate Certificate program are not eligible to earn credit for a practicum experience. Approval from the  Department of Higher Education Administration is required.

Graduate internships offer students the opportunity to explore potential career paths, build their resumes, and gain essential industry experience that can lead to a full-time job. Internships can be for academic credit/no credit, paid or unpaid, and occur during the Fall/Spring semester or during the winter/summer breaks. Internships for credit require approval from an academic department. Internships can be on-site, hybrid or remote.

Special note: Tuition remission, health insurance, and retirement benefits are not included as part of graduate internship/field education and practicum positions.

  The Career Center is searching for an in-person paid graduate intern for the 2023-2024 Academic Year. This is an excellent opportunity for matriculated graduate students interested in supporting Stony Brook’s Career Center and the Experiential Learning initiatives.   The Intern will assist the Associate Dean of Student Affairs with the coordination of the Division of Student Affairs (DoSA) Undergraduate Fellowship Program and related initiatives. • Residential Conduct & Community Standards Internship - AY24/25 (Division of Campus Residences)

  Position Description:

  This position is an internship in the Residential Conduct & Community Standards area.

  Learning Outcomes for this position:
  - Gain valuable, real-world experience in the student affairs field.
  - Learn how to have formal meetings with clients/ students.
  - Create educational resources for students and professional staff.
  - Refine interpersonal and written communication skills.

  Position Responsibilities:
  - Maintain confidentiality of student records according to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA.)
  - Attend all necessary training sessions
  - Answer, screen, and forward incoming phone calls -
  -  Receive, process, and investigate 1st-level alleged violations of the Code of Student Responsibility.
  - Meet with the parties in the case and review the administrative hearing process.
  - Triage cases; meet with and interview/obtain written statements from the complaint(s), respondent(s), and witnesses
  - Render sanctions/ interventions following hearing results as well as providing communication of decisions.
  - Review and create Incident Reports
  - Provide basic and accurate information in person and via phone/email
  - Connect students with resources such as CARE, CAPS, Timely Care ect.
  - Assist with training, outreach, and auditing

  Required Qualifications:  Must be a graduate student enrolled in a Master degree program.
  Preferred Qualifications:  A graduate student in Social Work, Higher Education Administration  or Psychology

  Hours: 15-20 hours per week on Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and  5:00 PM. This internship does not include working during the Winter 2025 period.

• Social Work Intern - AY23/24 (Military and Veteran Student Services)

  This position is in the Office of Military and Veteran Student Services. 

  Position Description:

  • Assist with the facilitation of the Vets-4-Vets Peer Sponsorship Program: Connect Sponsors to appropriate on and off-campus resources, assist in the coordination of Vets-4-Vets events, create and disperse polls to gauge program effectiveness (on-site and remote work).
  • Assist with the facilitation of the Office's brown bag lunches for special populations and groups (i.e. female veterans, disabled veterans, veteran dependents): create icebreaker exercises and create/disperse polls to gauge impressions of the lunches (on-site and remote work).
  • Assist with any and all events and happenings within the Office of Military and Veteran Student Services (events are fully on-site).

  Required Qualifications: Enrolled in the School of Social Welfare MSW program and in good academic standing
  Preferred Qualifications: Military-connected (veteran, veteran's dependent)

Higher Education Practicum Opportunities - Suffolk County Community College  (Spring 2024, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025)

Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the SUNY system with a diverse enrollment of over 15,000 students, and three campuses accessible to residents across the County.  Individuals considered for practicum/internships must be enrolled in a Master of Arts Higher Education Administration (H.E.A.) Program. They also must be enrolled in HEA 586: Higher Education Administration  Practicum or enrolled in HEA 587: Advanced  Practicum in Higher Education Administration. Prior work experience in a higher education or professional setting is preferred, but not required. Approval from the  Department of Higher Education Administration is required.

Time Commitment: 10 hours per week for a minimum of 150 hours by the end of the semester, including a weekly meeting with your supervisor.
