Interested in becoming a CEAS Tutor?

Tutors have a diverse range of subject matter expertise (earned a grade of B or higher) in courses within applied math, math, physics, computer science, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.  Tutors have excellent communication skills and professionalism.

CEAS Tutor Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a matriculated undergraduate or graduate student with a declared major at Stony Brook University
  • Must have earned a minimum B+ or higher in the subjects for which they are tutoring

CEAS Tutor Preferred Qualifications:

  • Matriculated in a program in the CEAS
  • Able to tutor at least 5 of the currently offered courses under the major
  • Completed all tutored subjects at Stony Brook University

CEAS Tutor Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Expected to tutor a minimum of 4-5 hours per week in-person
  • Only communicate with tutees during tutoring session hours
  • Attend and participate in the CEAS Tutor Training
  • Volunteer for 5 minute In-Class Announcements about the CEAS Tutoring Program at beginning of the semester
  • Two monthly half hour check-in meetings per semester
  • Final Self-Assessment
  • One hour long Final Evaluation per semester.
  • Compilation/creation of resources for CEAS Tutoring Program website
  • Your last semester as a CEAS Tutor you are expected to assist with 5-8 Mock Tutoring Interviews
  • Excellent communication skills, professional, and friendly
