Honors College

The mission of Honors College is to promote personal and intellectual growth among a diverse group of highly motivated students who aspire to achieve academic excellence, assume responsible roles in society, and develop their leadership capacities.  Students pursue an innovative, seminar-based curriculum modeled on the best traditions of university education and integrated into the research and creative enterprises at Stony Brook. The program creates the social and academic atmosphere of a small liberal arts college within the heart of a large, public, research university.

The Stony Brook Simons STEM Scholars Program aims to place our students on the front lines of global STEM challenges to become the change needed in the world today. Our scholars are leaders in their community, the best and brightest academically, advocates for the value of diversity in science, and most importantly, team players who come together to use our shared set of values to achieve their ultimate career and academic aspirations.

STEM Smart Outreach

STEM Smart, housed in the Department of Technology and Society, is an umbrella organization of STEM Education Programs designed to enhance the participation of groups that are underrepresented in STEM education and careers. Supporters of these programs include SBU, the NYSE, the National Science Foundation, businesses, private foundations, and individuals.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URECA)

Stony Brook University, a trailblazer in integrating research and undergraduate education, was one of the first research universities in the country to establish an office for the specific purpose of promoting undergraduate research and creative activity and offers many programs that support undergraduate research efforts. Established in 1987, the URECA program is administered through the Office of the Provost/Division of Undergraduate Education, it has been generously supported by the Simons Foundation.

The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program mission is to increase the number of individuals from various underrepresented groups in science, mathematics and engineering fields through outreach, recruitment and retention efforts.
