Message From the President

December 16, 2020

To  all Faculty and Staff,

In October, my team launched the Strategic Budget Initiative (SBI). Through the work of five distinct task forces, the SBI is focused on exploring new revenue streams, ways to increase productivity, initiatives to build and strengthen our academic and research programs, and notably, opportunities to work collaboratively and effectively together as one campus. They are also working to identify obstacles and duplication of efforts that distract us from our important work as a research institution.

The SBI Task Forces have generated a series of ideas and the SBI Steering Committee is seeking the input of faculty and staff on these areas of potential action. Your input will help the Steering Committee to develop priorities and determine next steps. This survey should only take about 8 to 10 minutes of your time. Please remember that your responses are confidential, and the results will be analyzed in the aggregate. Your open and honest feedback is greatly appreciated.

The challenges we face are not easy to solve and you are encouraged to think creatively, consider what we can accomplish collectively, and ponder the tradeoffs that may be needed at all levels within the university as you respond to the survey questions.

The findings of the survey will be shared with the campus community and will be used to guide the work of the SBI Steering Committee and Task Forces. If you have any questions regarding this survey's content, use, or purpose, please contact Rose Martinelli at rosemaria.martinelli@stonybrook.edu
