Prof. John F. Bailyn, Director (Department of Linguistics)
Originally from Cambridge, Massachusetts, John Frederick Bailyn is Professor of Linguistics at Stony Brook University with a PhD from Cornell. In 2003, together with Anna Maslennikova of St. Petesbuyrg State University, Bailyn co-founded the NY-St. PetersurgInstitute of Linguistics, Cogniton and Culture, an international summer Institute held annually at St. Petersburg State University. A product of Intensive Russian Immersion programs at Middlebury College and Leningrad State University, JFB is a strong believer in the efficacy of Intensive Language training and founded the American Language Center, Russia's first adult English immersion program in 1994. From 2007-2009 he directed the State Department's Critical Languages Scholarship program's Russian language institutes, held in 7 Russian cities, before creating the Advanced Critical Language Institute (ACLI) in 2010. JFB’s research and teaching intrests include theoretical syntax, Slavic syntax, musical cognition and contemporary Russian culture and society. He also serves as the Director of the Russia Programs Network for the State University of New York system. He currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Alecia Barbour provides administrative support to Stony Brook University’s International Academic Programs in Russia, an initiative of PSRI. She additionally serves as the Assistant to the Director of the Russia Programs Network for the State University of New York system. Alecia is a PhD Candidate in Ethnomusicology at Stony Brook University (Department of Music).

Samantha Godfrey ​is an undergraduate Linguistics major at Stony Brook University. She is currently an Undergraduate Intern for PSRI and has an interest in Russian language and culture. Samantha will graduate in May 2015 and hopes to continue her education in linguistics at the graduate level and beyond.

Russell Tanenbaum is a PhD student in the linguistics department at Stony Brook University. Working under Prof. John Bailyn, Russell has pursued research on the comparative syntax of Slavic and Austronesian languages, in addition to doing coordination work for Stony Brook's St. Petersburg Study Abroad Programs as a Graduate Assistant. Currently enrolled in Russian language classes, he hopes to get even more involved in all things Russian in the future.

Elena Zemtsova is the on­site local administrator in support of PSRI initiatives in St. Petersburg, Russia. She provides support to SUNY Russia Program Network activities and to Stony Brook University Study Abroad and Exchange Programs in Russia. Elena is a teacher of English to young learners. She is a graduate of Magnitogorsk State University and she received her Master’s degree from St. Petersburg State University, Department of English Philology(2011).

Jacqueline Pfister is an undergraduate student who is majoring in Linguistics at Stony Brook University. She is currently interning within the Linguistics department and will be graduating in August 2015. Jacqueline has studied Russian language and culture throughout her undergraduate program at Stony Brook. She has previously attended the study abroad program in Saint Petersburg Russia and will be attending again this summer. She looks forward to continuing her studies in Linguistics as well as Russian language and culture in the future.
