Dietary Aide, Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook, NY

Position Summary

Dietary Aides perform various patient services, including patient meal tray assembly, distribution and service, general sanitation, cleaning, and use of kitchen equipment and pantries.  Patients often compliment Stony Brook Hospital on the excellent meals they receive while in the hospital, largely because of our  Dietary Aides. 

1199 Union Position: Dietary Aides are employees of the Faculty Student Association.  The 1199 Union provides health and retirement benefits after completion of the probationary period.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and follow basic instructions in English.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and push objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

Position Responsibilities

  • Assemble and deliver patient meal trays.
  • Transport food carts and equipment in a safe manner throughout the hospital as required.
  • Operate and clean equipment per departmental procedures.
  • Safely transport garbage and recyclable material to assigned areas.
  • Accurately portion and serve food for patients quickly, accurately, with minimum waste, and in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Accurately inventory and deliver par stock supplies to identified units and clean per departmental procedures.
  • Complete food temperature control logs as per established protocol.
  • Utilize equipment in performing job functions as per departmental safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
  • Salary: $21.52 Hourly  (After one year, $22.59- Contractual increases afterward.)
  • Local 1199 Union Shop
  • Schedule: 3pm to 8pm - Flexibilty is a MUST. Weekends and Holidays REQUIRED.
